The national Census takes place every ten years and is a count of every person living in the UK. The next Census will take place on 27th March 2011.
Around 35000 Census field staff are needed across England and Wales and a recruitment campaign is under way.
Many of the jobs are part time and can be combined with other work or family responsibilities.
There are a range of roles including:
- Census Coordinator – managing staff conducting the Census in a particular area
- Census Collector – contacting and helping households who have not returned their Census form
- Special Enumerators - conducting the Census in communal establishments eg hospitals, residential homes, boarding schools
- Census Coverage Survey and Non Compliance staff
All of these jobs are paid.
In Luton there will be around 100 jobs working on the Census.
