The coalition has published its consultation paper on DLA reform, and proposes to abolish this crucial benefit by 2013/2014 and to replace it with a Personal Independence Payment (P.I.P.) Although the reforms include a proposed simplification of the application process, all existing DLA claimants will face having their claim re-assessed as part of the changeover. Since one of the reasons behind the reforms is the Government's aim to reduce the cost of DLA by 20%, there are serious concerns that many people who depend on the financial assistance DLA brings will be excluded from P.I.P. or will receive less under the new scheme.
